Owen Storey

Owen Storey is currently studying jazz bass at Manhattan School of Music with Jay Anderson.

Owen has been a member of some of the top youth groups in the Bay Area, including the Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Sarah Cline, the SFJazz High School All-Stars Combo directed by Dann Zinnn, the SFJazz HSAS Orchestra directed by Paul Contos, Michael Zilber’s Advanced High School Workshop I at the California Jazz Conservatory (CJC), and Dave Eshelman’s Studio Band at the CJC.

He has performed at many jazz festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Charles Mingus Festival, and has also played at a variety of venues in the Bay Area, including Yoshi’s, the Solano Stroll, the Sound Room, and numerous private events. Owen has received a variety of soloist awards, including Outstanding Rhythm Section Player at the Reno Jazz Festival, and Outstanding Soloist at the Mingus Jazz Festival.

Owen was a member of the CBDA California All-State Honor Jazz Band in 2015 and 2016, and the NAfME National Honor Jazz Band in 2016, and was selected for the Berklee Five-Week Jazz Workshop in 2016. In addition, his high school combo “Combo C” was selected as the High School Small Jazz Combo Winner for 2016 by Downbeat Magazine.

He has studied with renowned jazz musicians such as Terri Lynn Carrington, Chris Crenshaw, and Jeff Hamilton, and has performed with others such as Joshua Redman, Mary Stallings, Robin Eubanks, Lewis Nash, Sean Jones, and Donny McCaslin.

Owen has worked with many of the Bay Area’s top musicians including Glenn Richman, Peter Barshay, Joe Bagale, Mary Fettig, Steve Gibson, Dave Gregoric, Kasey Knudsen, and Marty Wehner.
